What are the GST slabs in India?
India has 5 GST slabs: 0% (essential goods like rice, milk), 5% (basic necessities, economy class travel), 12% (processed foods, medicines), 18% (electronics, most services, restaurants), 28% (luxury goods, cars, tobacco). The 18% slab covers the majority of goods and services.
What is GST exclusive vs inclusive?
GST Exclusive: the stated price does not include GST. GST is added on top. A product priced at Rs 100 exclusive of 18% GST costs Rs 118 total. GST Inclusive: the stated price already includes GST. A product priced at Rs 118 inclusive of 18% GST has a base price of Rs 100 and GST of Rs 18.
What is the difference between CGST, SGST and IGST?
CGST (Central GST) and SGST (State GST) are each half the total GST rate, applied on intra-state (within same state) transactions. IGST (Integrated GST) equals the full GST rate, applied on inter-state (different state) transactions. For 18% GST on intra-state: CGST = 9%, SGST = 9%. For inter-state: IGST = 18%.
How do I calculate GST on a price?
Exclusive (add GST): GST Amount = Price x Rate / 100. Total = Price + GST Amount. Inclusive (extract GST): Base Price = Price / (1 + Rate/100). GST Amount = Price – Base Price. Example: Rs 1180 inclusive of 18% GST. Base = 1180/1.18 = Rs 1000. GST = Rs 180.
Who needs to register for GST?
Businesses with annual turnover above Rs 40 lakh (goods) or Rs 20 lakh (services) must register for GST. Special category states have lower limits. E-commerce operators and inter-state suppliers must register regardless of turnover. Voluntary registration is allowed even below threshold.
